History
The Jackson Choral Society started in the spring of 2011. Previous community choirs in Jackson included the Lambuth Community Chorus in the 1980s and the Festival Singers of the First Presbyterian Church in the mid 2000s.
The JCS started under the leadership of Darian Krimm in 2011. Ricky Clark led the choir in 2016, and Austin Clark took over in 2017. In 2022 when the choir came back from a short break during the COVID-19 pandemic, Zach Young took over directing duties. Mitzi Mathenia has served as the accompanist for the entirety of JCS's history.
In March of 2020, the Jackson Choral Society was named the Jackson Chamber of Commerce's Non-Profit of the Year. The JCS helped Jackson/Madison County celebrate its bicentennial by being the basis of a near 200 voice choir that performed at a celebration in the summer of 2022.
